Women’s bodies have always been looked at, judged, shaped and controlled.
In this exhibition, fourteen female photographers choose to reclaim their bodies through their own gaze, transforming them from objects into subjects.
Here, the body is never neutral.
It is a body-object reduced to a doll, a mannequin, an unattainable model of perfection; fragmented, commodified, stripped of its humanity.
It is a wounded body: afflicted by illness, marked and tested by treatment and pain.
It is a body as memory: the passing of time, the traces of ageing, the stories etched upon the skin.
Finally, it is a body that becomes a conscious and creative subject: in the movement of dance, in dialogue with art, in the mirror that reflects a questioning gaze upon itself.
This exhibition does not offer a single definition of the female body.
It conveys its complexity, fragility and strength, allowing each image to speak for itself.
FOTOTECA COMUNALE MORROVALLE
Founded in 1989 on the initiative of Ivano Quintavalle, the Morrovalle Municipal Photo Library was established with the goal of collecting, preserving, and promoting the photographic history of the region and documenting its artistic, cultural, and anthropological heritage.
Over the years, in addition to preserving the historical archive, the Photo Library has played a significant role in promoting and disseminating photographic culture, offering amateur photographers opportunities for exchange, training, and growth through meetings, exhibitions, and events featuring photographers and scholars from other regions as well.
An affiliate of FIAF (Italian Federation of Photographic Associations) since 1989 and recipient of the BFI (Meritorious in Italian Photography) award, the Photo Library currently has 45 members and is chaired by Luigino Cipriani.
The exhibition “The Body: Women’s Perspectives” is the result of a collaborative effort by fourteen female photographers who chose to explore the theme of the female body, each interpreting it according to her own sensibility and personal vision. This four-month journey of research and collaboration arose from a desire to overcome stereotypes associated with the representation of women’s bodies and to affirm an authentically feminine perspective on themselves and their own identities.
